Brussels - Grand Place/Grote Markt

Hello

Thanks for popping in.

Welcome to the Brussels, we're heading for the spectacular Grand Place/Grote Markt, even bigger than the one in Antwerp, packed full of detail and splendour.

On the way, a statue of Mayor Charles Buls during 1881-89 catches the eye, larger than life size, the statue by the fountain looks well loved and was only put there in 1999.

The Grand Place is the main square full of Guildhalls, the City's Town Hall, Museum and Tourist Information office not to mention restaurants, caf├ęs and shops.

How can you do this fantastic place justice with a few snaps?

The Place was busy with tourists but not as busy as it can be!

  1. Beautiful photos! You've captured the buildings around the square so well with lots of detail of the carving and sculptures. So much has gone on there in the past. It's such a huge space and a good one to hold special events. I remember there was a flower market in one area when I visited. I like the sculpture of the mayor with his dog by the fountain.

    1. There's so much to see there that you just can't get it all in a photo. What a good place for a flower market, even more colour!

  2. It looks fabulous and I think you've captured it so well, though I think there's many places where you just have to be there in person to actually do it justice.

    1. You're right there, you can't capture the delicious chocolatey smells, the excited chatter of the tourists or the sound of the church bells.
