Five on Friday - Before the Break

Thanks for calling in.  As we head towards the end of another year, it has been so kind of you to keep me company.  I've been delighted to see lots more pageviews registered recently. How amazing! Welcome!

This is the last Five on Friday until the New Year as we'll be having a break.  Thanks so much to Amy at Love Made My Home for organising the link-up all these years.  It has been really fun to join in and see what's happening all around the world.

My Five are just things that have happened this week.

One - Hospital

Visiting Mr CK in hospital this week opened my eyes to a different kind of Christmas decoration not seen outside the medical establishment.  Fingers crossed Mr CK is sent home in time for The Day.

Two - Cakes

I couldn't resist taking a few photos of these pretty cakes in the supermarket. Aren't they lovely.

Three - Gingerbread Tree

This year, instead of a gingerbread house we are having a gingerbread Christmas tree for a change. The houses we have made over the years can be seen here.

The recipe will be the same but 19 stars have been cut out, baked and stacked on top of each other to form a tree.  Here's a template for the stars. I've glued it all together with chocolate and sploshed some white icing on for snow.  My photos look somewhat crazy with all the lines so do have a look at the link to see a professional one!

Four - Ice Cream Mountain

Another tradition is the ice cream mountain - cream (whipped) full of chocolate meringues amaretti biscuits, sherry, cherries, maraschino cherries, digestive biscuits and maltesers.  I know, double yum! It's something we all like to create together.  It goes into the freezer and is thoroughly enjoyed as an alternative to Christmas Pud.

Five - Happy Christmas

Finally, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  I hope it turns out just the way you want it to be.

Thanks for visiting.

We're off walking in the sunshine for a bit today!  You won't need your boots as we'll be on the pavement mostly but do take your gloves as its a bit chilly.

That's better.  I hope you didn't get too out of breath up the hill.  Mind you, I expect there's some of you who ran all the way!

Nice to get some fresh air.

Today is the Winter Solstice marking the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere so from tomorrow we can look forward to lengthening days again.  Hurray! Here are a few mosaics of the great outdoors for you to enjoy.

Reindeer Hunting

Thanks for visiting.

Nearly Christmas and the reindeer hunt was on.  How many would we spot?

The first was caught up in a snowstorm in the electrical shop.

Two were lurking nonchalantly outside the beauty parlour, half in/half out.

Two on the mantelpiece.

No reindeer here, just ducks.

Look at this one!  What outrageous antlers!

If there were any there, we'd never have spotted them but there was actually a football match taking place!

Looking Back

Thanks for visiting.

I've been looking back over our photos of Christmas' past.  It's been great fun.

I've seen all the changes in the way we've looked!  All the visitors that have spent time with us at Christmas, relatives and friends. All the fun we've shared.  There were years when we had snow. There were times when we needed Skype to track down the missing persons when they were far away. Times when people weren't well and then the next year, they were back again.   I've enjoyed looking back to see those dear ones that have now passed away but they are in the photos laughing, smiling and having a great time.

 It's been a magical time.

Ah, happy days!

Wishing you a magical time at Christmas.  Don't forget to take lots of photos.

A Soggy Day at the Park

Thanks for calling in.

Five coaches packed with schoolchildren pulled up at the Park by the Shops at the same time as me.  No doubt they were excited to be seeing Cinderella in the Theatre.  I was excited to be in the fresh air taking in all the nature on a soggy day.  Around the Arts Centre you could see that Cinderella was on their minds.  Nice little touches here and there.

Here's another of Andrew Hawkins' paintings as you liked the other one so much!

Outside, the mistletoe was ripe for the picking, but how to get all the way up there?

The damp bark of the trees took on animal shapes - look at this elephant!

Bare branches are everywhere now, so we can peep through the woody wall.

By the lake, the gunnera look like dying swans from Swan Lake.

I wonder if the Fairy Godmother turned up?  It just wouldn't be the same without her.

Five on Friday - Christmas Again!

Welcome to the blog for Five on Friday supplied by lovely Amy at Love Made My Home.  Thanks to everyone for all the messages you leave me, I do answer them but sometimes it takes a few days!  They are so appreciated.

Have you had a good week?  Hope so.  It's still nearly Christmas so here's another five jolly things to keep you in the festive mood.

One - Garden Centre

Our Christmas tree came from the local Garden Centre, which also is lucky enough to have a visit from Santa.  His grotto is inside the building and I'm just not sure how he's going to get through the door (they don't have a chimney).

Rudolf dropped him off and has spotted a rather nice tree to take home later.

Two - Card Hangers

Aren't these little pegs cute!  They're all ready to hang up the cards to stop them falling down behind the back of the cupboard.

Three - Wreath

The Christmas wreath I made last year is hanging up again.  I used Lucy from Attic24's pattern.

Four - Advent Calendars

Mr CK kindly bought me an Advent Calendar, no chocolate of course, they are the best kind and I have really enjoyed opening the doors each morning.  I know, I'm just a big kid at heart (not a goat).  However, Waitrose also sent me one and each day I find out if there are any bargains to be had, last posting days and such like.

Five - Ducks

One Christmas, Mr CK bought me two wooden ducks. Mr and Mrs Duck!

A couple of years later Miss CK spotted this duck to add to the collection. What a great idea!

A couple of temporary duck substitutes were acquired for the two younger CK ducklings to be replaced by these a year or so later.

Ahhh! Happy days. Look, they have their Christmas bows on.

Have a good week.

Bye for now.
