Royal Ascot Ladies Day

Thanks for calling in and for all your kind messages.

I am a bit behind this week! I had Wednesday as my topic for Friday and today I'm going to mention Thursday! Ha ha

This week there has been horse racing at Ascot not far from here. All these years I've lived here, I have never visited! It's all part of The Season like Wimbledon and Henley Regatta. The Queen attends and even has some of her own horses racing. In fact, it's an occasion to dress up and be noticed, to take a picnic and some bubbly, make a few bets maybe and enjoy the spectacle.

Sitting in my friend's garden with a group of hat- bedecked ladies eating a delicious buffet with a glass of Pimms or champers, we watched the races on TV and cheered on our horses, chosen at random from an envelope of names. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the first three places from the money put in the kitty, it was just like the real thing! It's the third time we've done this, here's a link to last year.

As they say, the going was soft - just a spot of rain or two - nothing to spoil the day though.

Over at the racecourse, the place was packed.

Here's a link to the website where there are lots of lovely photos like the two above.

Many thanks to our wonderful hostess for giving us all such a fun time.

  1. A lovely way to enjoy the Ascot Racing if you can't actually get there. We would go quite often when we lived in Berkshire. There's a family story of Princess Margaret looking straight at me and smiling as the Royals drove down the course on opening day. I was only about four at the time, but it's one of those tales that stick in the memory. The Queen looks very happy when she's at the races and with her horses. I thought her outfits were lovely this year.

    1. How lovely that your family passed on the story of a wonderful day. No wonder you visited several times. She looked marvellous, didn't she.

  2. What fun to have a Royal Ascot day! We watched the Queen on the telly, she looked gorgeous as ever, even when she had a stewards enquiry as to whether her horse had interfered with the runner-up on one race! Luckily she won.

    1. She's had some spectacular outfits over the last week or so and every time she made an appearance, the sun came out. x
