How are you?
If you have been following my weekly garden updates, you might have noticed a mention or two of a home made automatic watering system. Well, here it is, ta-dah!
Mr Crimson Kettle has been working very hard to construct it out of all sorts of things and today it has had its first test-run. I can almost see the chillies growing in glee to have the water dripping in.
So to the technical details. A raspberry pi computer masterminds the operation allowing the setting of watering times and an optical sensor detects whether the tank is full or empty, in which case the tap is automatically turned on and the tank is filled to the required amount. The water is fed through the hoses to the dribblers in the flowerpots and drips in to refresh those thirsty plants.
You will notice various recycled packaging in use, from yoghurt pots to ping pong balls, garden netting to pipe off-cuts, cardboard cereal boxes to milk bottles.
Oh and while you are sunning yourself on the beach or scaling a mountain on holiday, you can contact the raspberry pi's webpage to check it is working correctly! Fancy that!
Well done Mr CK! No more dried up frazzled plants for us!
