Welford Park

Welford Park near Newbury is well known for it's carpets of snowdrops at this time of the year.

It is a private house that is only open during the snowdrop season. Here's their website.

The first thing that strikes you as you walk from the car park across the road, are the clumps of snowdrops along the path leading you towards the little shed ticket office. The land is interspersed with streams and the River Lambourn and must flood quite easily. We were glad to have our walking boots in the car as it was quite muddy in places.

We headed through the gates towards the cafe for a slice of coffee cake and a coffee to set us up as it was quite a cold day. A couple of metal giraffes peeped over the wall, as we followed the signs to the snowdrop woods. Crossing the lawn, we turned to view the house which has a church behind it, neither of which are open to the public.

Once into the woods, the snowdrops stretched before us as a blanket of snow. A glorious sight.

It's a lovely place for a stroll and see those first signs of spring.

Welford Park was the location of the 2014 Great British Bake Off.
