Olympic Games

Hello

Weren't the Rio 2016 Olympic Games  fantastic!  I have loved every moment.  They were a real celebration of hard work and commitment. Of trying your best and never giving up. Of teamwork and achievement. Of inspiration.

Whilst on holiday in Greece in 2004, we came across the Olympic Torch on its way to the Olympics in Athens and it just set me alight with excitement for the Games ever since.

All those individual athletes involved have their own story to tell of their journey to participate which has made it fascinating. It's not really all about the medals, it's such an achievement to qualify and take part.

Within the GB team, Nick Skelton won his first gold medal as an individual at the Show Jumping at the age of 58 on his horse Big Star after competing in seven Olympic Games, suffering a broken neck and a hip replacement along the way and at the other end of the age range 16 year old Amy Tinkler, winning a Bronze in the Women's Floor Exercise, was waiting for her school GCSE exam results.

Well done everyone and thanks to the BBC for their excellent coverage.

I'm looking forward to Tokyo 2020 already!

  1. I did manage to see some of the highlights but not as much as I would have liked.

    1. The time difference made it a bit awkward and you do have to eat sometimes!

  4. We loved it. We were camping for the first week so couldn't see any of it but thank goodness for the radio and the newspapers. x
