Guildford Castle and the great outdoors

One more place to note on our whistle stop tour of Guildford. William the Conqueror (1066) built many castles and Guildford was a good spot to have one!  Here is the website with all the details about the Castle, do have a look and see all the changes that have taken place over the years.

Nowadays the site is a riot of colour with the wonderful planting around it.

There's the Cathedral in the distance.  Been there!  I'm standing at the base of the Castle Tower.

Around the town, I found these outdoor spaces.

This sundial marked 700 years since the coronation of Edward I (Longshanks) and his Queen Eleanor who spent some time at the Castle.

Sheep and sheep-like bushes!

Memorial garden to Artist GF Watts, who lived in nearby Compton, in the centre of town

There is so much to see in Guildford, it's not only a shopping destination, or you can just sit by the River and watch the world go by.

Have fun.

Cheerio!

  1. The planting looks gorgeous, especially the tulips, and I love the cloud formations - I'm a big fan of skies!

    1. It was a bit different with all the white flowers with pale tulips dotted in between. :-)
