Another Bank Holiday, Another Donkey Derby

Thank goodness the sun was shining as I headed out to man the bric-a-brac stall at the 49th Village Donkey Derby. In previous years it's been cancelled at the last minute as the field had turned into a quagmire following a deluge. Definitely not suitable for the donkeys that compete in the races.

It's a long day of setting up and clearing at the end, but a good community occasion which aids many charities.

Here are the lads and lasses waiting for their turn.  They know the score, they've done it all before! A bit of hanging about, a short walk, the children climb on and the real competition starts - which donkey can shed it's load the quickest! Really though they have to race round to the finish line .

Lucky for winner No. 4, who pressed on to the end followed by No. 7, No. 8 saw something interesting in the crowd and got sidetracked and all the others fell off!

There are all the usual entertaining sideshows.

Hook a duck

Spin the chilli

Dissect owl pellets and find out about the local countryside! That's a new one on me!

We had a lot less on our stall at the end than we had at the beginning of the day so I think we can say a successful day was had by all.

Thanks for visiting.

See you soon.
