Thames Barrier

I've mentioned a few museums to visit in London before, collected together under the Trips label, so here's another idea if you are in the City.  What about visiting the Thames Barrier which is one of the largest movable flood defences in the world.

There is a small exhibition centre and a cafe.  Here's the website with all the information for visiting, how it works and when scheduled closures are taking place.

It's about 35 minutes walk next to the Thames to the O2 on the Greenwich Peninsula.  You could even try out the Emirates Airline whilst you are in the area.
