These are a few I have made over the last couple of years - maybe you have spotted them!
|Actually these were for Easter eggs, but could have been used on the bottles.|
This campaign has been running since 2003 to help vulnerable older people. It is run in conjunction with Age UK and Innocent Drinks. To date 4 million hats have been knitted raising £1.5 million which has gone towards the cost of things like blankets, hot water bottles, hot meals and social gatherings. The hats can also be knitted by those who will benefit providing a fun activity.
The Age UK website explains:
'How the Big Knit helps older peopleAs many as 25,000 older people may die needlessly this winter because of the cold. The money raised through the Big Knit supports our Spread the Warmth campaign, helping older people during the cold winter months through befriending visits, emergency cold weather support, warm meals and other vital services.'
The drinks with hats are on sale now and 25p is donated to Age UK for every hat sold, but back in October volunteers began knitting furiously and managed to deliver 862,763 hats by December 2014.
I think that's one of mine, right in the middle!!
The hats are quick and easy to make, here are a few patterns.
